Aim of the funding programme
Our education system is facing a number of major challenges. These include, for example, demographic and technological change, shortage of teachers and skilled workers, a growing demand for all-day care and increasing diversity. Particularly under conditions of increasing heterogeneity, it is important to provide the best possible support to each and every individual. In order to meet the above mentioned challenges constructively, educational institutions and the people working and learning in them need high quality standards at structure and process level. The funding therefore aims at fostering the sustainable increase of quality in educational institutions and to enable educational institutions to deal with their challenges by drawing on the necessary process and organisational knowledge.
In order to achieve this goal, this funding line will support research that analyses current social developments and framework conditions in terms of their impact on educational institutions and, at the same time, takes into consideration their diverse structures and dynamics. Particular attention shall be paid to the specific organisational measures, strategies, structures, processes and behaviours that actually improve the quality of educational institutions. Prospective projects are supposed to investigate, under which institution-specific conditions these can be successfully applied. The measures to be analysed and developed should focus on change processes and should also help educational institutions to strengthen the development of learners in terms of performance, competences, personality and/or other non-cognitive aspects. For this purpose, people working in educational institutions will need sound knowledge of how to deal with and organise change processes. Futhermore, they should be provided with knowledge concerning quality assurance and development measures.
Against this background, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is funding research that helps to work out effective and sustainable ways of designing measures for quality assurance and quality development in educational institutions that can easily be implemented in the field.
