Field of action: Educational equity

Objectives of the measure
Around 20 per cent of all children and young people experience sexualised violence. This ranges from inappropriate touching and sexually motivated advances made on social media to serious cases of abuse. Sexualised violence can happen anywhere where children and young people live, play, learn and are cared for. However, families, schools, day care centres, residential care homes, recreational facilities and peer groups are also places that protect and empower young people. Providing children and young people with better protection from sexualised violence remains a task for society as a whole.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been funding research on sexualised violence against children and young people in educational contexts since 2011. The objective is to build a solid, evidence-based foundation for the protection of children and young people and the prevention of sexualised violence. Innovative concepts for the prevention of sexualised violence, for the qualification of teachers or for organisational development in institutions are transferred into practice.

Further information on the research topics and a brochure providing an overview of the research projects in the first funding round can be found here. The final report on the evaluation of the funding line on sexualised violence against children and young people in educational contexts can be found here.
